The Bible and pornography

Arnie Cole, head of Back to the Bible’s Center for Bible Engagement, sent me several pieces of research they completed recently and there was some fascinating information there.  Here is a snapshot of what one survey reveals about Christ followers:

  • Most believe the Bible is relevant to their everyday lives and is their life authority
  • Bible reading habits are directly related to spiritual growth

                 YET

  • Only half read the Bible daily
  • Only around 40% have ready the entire Bible

What’s the life impact? Respondents who read the Bible at least four times a week are far less likely to engage in behaviors such as pornography, drunkenness, and sex outside marriage.  Yet several different studies suggest that at least half of men attending church are involved in pornography.

There’s much more I can talk about from this research, but one thing seems clear: We claim to believe that the Bible is our life guide, we know that reading it is good for us…yet we don’t and our lives show it.

So the million dollar question is: If we know the Bible is our life authority, why aren’t we making time to actually spend time in it? What do you think?
