God Sightings
At Group Publishing we had our monthly All-Staff meeting today. One of the things we did was pray over a new resource called God Sightings to commission it for churches. (It’s a fantastic product encouraging people to read through the Bible and discuss how they see God showing up in their lives.) In the process we were all asked to turn to the person sitting beside us and talk about a time that we had seen God show up in our daily lives.
I turned to the man sitting beside me and we both got that thoughtful look for a moment. Then I felt his hand on my shoulder and he said, “I’ve seen God show up here through you.” I was speechless–something you’ve probably gathered doesn’t happen very often. “So many times you’ve listened, given me encouragement, and said just the right thing. I remember a prayer you said in a meeting that just went to my soul and grabbed me.”
At that point we were both more misty-eyed than one usually sees in a corporate setting. But I’m not telling you this to brag; I want you to pay attention to that last sentence. He saw God show up through me when I wasn’t talking to him or about him, or even interacting with him directly! I was just praying.
Some question whether relationship-building activities constitute evangelism if they aren’t overly witnessing. The truth is that God can use our lives to touch others in every situation. Perhaps he can do so even more effectively if we aren’t conscious of being “Christ’s Ambassador” at that moment, because our actions are just genuine outpourings of lives lived for Him.
Having others see God in you isn’t really that hard. I certainly didn’t do anything special. If you just love Him dearly, try to live a life honoring Christ, you may be surprised how many times others see God in you…because He is.
